Dumbledore tops Entertainment Weekly Cherished Teachers list

Dumbledore has topped Entertainment Weekly's list of the 24 Most Cherised Teachers in film and television.
Dumbledore represents everything a good professor can be: a mentor, a father figure, and a friend. If it wasn't for him, Harry would have never gotten over his broken past to become the wizard he is today. And really, who doesn't love a professor who makes up words at schoolwide banquets? Cheers to Dumbledore for bringing the ridiculous back into education.

Spintwitches for Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Pictures of a sports shop construction called Spintwitches, created for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, have emerged online and can be seen here. The photos were taken at a warehouse where this was being built.
The theme park opens in Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, in 2010.

'Potter' publisher looks to promote next big thing

On Sept. 9, the U.S. publisher of "Harry Potter" will premiere a highly ambitious series with a mystery ending for readers and a couple of puzzlers for the industry: How big is the market for a multimedia story â and can a phenomenon be conceived by a publisher rather than created by the public?

"The 39 Clues" is a planned 10-volume set about young Amy and Dan Cahill and their worldwide search for the secret to their family's power. The first book, "The Maze of Bones," is written by Rick Riordan of "The Lightning Thief" fame and has an announced first printing of 500,000. Steven Spielberg has already acquired film rights to the series.

Tales of Beedle the Bard poster

Bloomsbury, the U.K. publishers of Harry Potter, have updated their website with the official promotional poster for the Tales of Beedle the Bard, which employs quotes from Deathly Hallows.

A new behind-the-scenes photo from Half-Blood Prince has surfaced online, thanks to an anonymous email, which shows Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Bonnie Wright on the Burrow set; the photo can be seen here.
Also, photographer James Dimmock has released a high resolution version of the Harry and Draco image released earlier this month by Entertainment Weekly, which can be seen here.

"Order of the Phoenix" Nominated for People's Choice at European Film Awards

The âHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenixâ film has been included on a list of nominees for the Peopleâs Choice Award at the 21st Annual European Film Awards. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the fifth Potter film faces such films as âWelcome to the Sticks,â âArn,â âRabbit Without Earsâ, âThe Orphanage,â â[REC],â and âAtonementâ in this category. Voting will open up for this award on Monday, September 1st via this link. The 2008 European Film Awards will be held this year in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 6th.

'Half-Blood Prince' most anticipated movie of 2009 according to Fandango

Movie and entertainment site Fandango, the nations leading provider of movie tickets, conducted a survey of 3,000 respondents this month and a whopping 43% picked the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie as the most anticipated movie of 2009.

Rounding out the top 5 was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (16%), Night at the Museum 2 (7%), Watchmen (7%) and Star Trek (6%).

Meanwhile, Twilight has taken Half-Blood Prince's spot as the most anticipated film this fall.
