The agency which decided to take a chance on the now best-selling Harry Potter series when no one else would, is now offering a literary award to students on the creative writing course.
The Christopher Little Literary Agency, which picked up English author JK Rowling`s work after she had been turned down by several other publishers and agents, is offering MA students a 1,500 pounds cash prize, and also the chance to attending a creative writing course at City University in London if they can come up with an original piece of work and “not a Harry Potter clone”...

The agency revealed that all students in the final term of the MA in Creative Writing (Novels) need to do is submit three chapters, as well as a synopsis of the book they are already required to write as part of their course to the agency.
Patrick Janson-Smith of the Christopher Little Literary Agency said that bosses at the agency felt that the award was a “practical way” to seek out “fresh and original” authors, who like Rowling, had a hard time breaking into the industry.
"Considering the number of trees chopped down to feed this industry, real talent does not grow on them. We feel this is a practical way to seek out authors who are fresh and original, who have a particular voice and are not same old, same old," the BBC quoted him, as saying.
2007 will be the first time that the prize, which will be awarded annually at the end of the academic year, will be handed out.
