In honor of Harry Potter's birthday and the suspenseful release of the seventh and final book of the popular Harry Potter series, The Music Hall is opening its doors to wizards, their friends and family, for a night of festivities. The evening of magical fun in the historic hall begins at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 20, an hour and a half before "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" goes on sale (U.S. East Coast release). Before a dramatic reading ending after midnight, audiences of all ages can join in wizard games, costume contests and other flights of fancy to and from the "dark side."...

"What better place to celebrate Harry Potter than in our spirited Victorian hall? Second only to Hogwarts itself in atmosphere?," said Monte Bohanan, director of Patron Relations and Web Services. "This night of wizards is our favorite new tradition. Two years ago we launched book six with Dementors roaming Chestnut Street, the Weasley boys romping through the hall, and Mad Eye Moody testing the will and vocal chords of wizards present."
The evening culminates in a dramatic reading on stage of the book's first chapter and quick exit for all after midnight with a hot-off-the-press copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in hand. For many, midnight is the beginning of a long night, a thrilling week, as they start their reading of the eagerly awaited book.
"The excitement for this seventh book has been building for two years and has grown even stronger since the announcement of its July 21 midnight release," said Tom Holbrook, co-owner and manager of RiverRun Bookstore in downtown Portsmouth. RiverRun is partnering with The Music Hall, providing books for the event.
"'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will be bigger and more exciting than any previous book in the series as it's the last. We expect great things," added Holbrook. "J.K Rowling created an unmatched excitement for reading among all ages, and many of us inside and outside the book business are sad to see the series end. July 20th will be a night of fun and fond farewell at The Music Hall, a grand celebration no Harry Potter fan should miss."
Tickets cost $8 ($7 for members), and go on sale at noon Saturday, April 28, for members, and at noon Saturday, May 5 to the public. Tickets can be purchased at The Music Hall box office (28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth), over the phone (436-2400) or at www.themusichall.org. Must purchase voucher for discounted $29.95 book (retail price: $34.95) with each order of up to four tickets.
